Fine art paper guide

Every fine art paper we stock conform to the highest museum-grade quality: each is acid-free, fully archival and specially coated to receive inkjet pigment ink. We also offer some print finishing options if you’re looking for something extra special.

Our equipment

Our workhorse is an Epson 9900 which takes Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks. These pigment inks are capable of producing the widest tonal range in digital printing. Our ICC profiles are created by Les Walkling and are customised to the papers we print on – a selection of papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, who are both renowned for their high end archival fine art papers. These factors (partnered with our knowledge of the many quirks of the 9900!) give us the ability to produce fine art prints with an exceptional colour gamut, meaning your prints will have all the tonalities and hues of the original artwork.

Matte smooth fine art paper

Hahnemühle Photo Rag

Specs: 308gsm, 100% cotton, small amount of optical brighteners.
A white smooth paper with a matte surface finish. It is an extremely versatile stock, suitable for reproducing a variety of mediums in both vibrant and subtle tones.

Hahnemühle Bamboo

Specs: 290sgsm, 90% bamboo, 10% cotton, no optical brighteners.
Bamboo is a warm white, matte stock with a smooth, ever-so-slightly dappled surface.  A great environmentally friendly option. This is because bamboo requires much less land and water to harvest than cotton.

Canson Rag Photographique

Specs: 310sgsm, 100% cotton, no optical brighteners.
The smoothest of all the papers we stock. A bright white stock with a super velvety matte finish. Photographique also boasts a high D-Max, which makes it ideal for images featuring deep black tones.

Photographic semi-gloss/lustre fine art paper

Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag

Specs: 310gsm, 100% cotton, no optical brighteners.
Platine is a bright white semi-gloss paper. Platine has a microporous coating, which gives a darkroom look and feel to digital prints. It also possesses a high D-Max* which makes it a great choice for black & white and colour photographic prints.

Matte textured fine art paper

Hahnemühle German Etching

Specs: 310gsm, 100% a-Cellulose (wood pulp), no optical brighteners.
German Etching is a mould-made paper that possesses a distinct textured surface. It’s surface texture mimics traditional watercolour paper. It is a white, heavyweight matte stock, perfect for illustrative and watercolour works.

Canson Printmaking Rag (formerly known as BFK Rives)

Specs: 310gsm, 100% cotton, no optical brighteners.
Printmaking Rag is also mould-made, though it has a softer texture than German Etching. It has a subtle linen-like surface texture with a silky finish.

Hahnemuhle Torchon

Specs: 285gsm, 100% a-Cellulose (wood pulp), small amount of optical brighteners.
Torchon is a bright white matte paper with a beautiful parchment surface. It is well suited to reproductions of oil, watercolour and pastel paintings. Despite having a distinct texture, it is a much more versatile paper than first appearances would have you believe.
